After a fantastic 2011 season the Southampton Mustangs II found out this weekend that they had been promoted to Double South for the 2012 season.
After going 12-1 during the regular season and being narrowly defeated in the Championship Play-Off Final against a very strong Cambridge team, the reward has come in a much deserved promotion. With pretty much the full squad returning from last year and a few quality additions made over the winter things are looking good as the team prepare to play at a higher level.
Second Team Manager Simon Barnes said: This is a great reward for the club and the guys who put in such a consistent performances for us last year. We are looking forward to the increased challenge that this will give us as a team for the new season and we know that we need to raise our performance from last year in order to take on that challenge. Having worked with the guys last year and during the off season I am sure they will do just that and that was evident in the practise session down at the field today. I’m looking forward to us put out a competitive team every week and am confident that we can continue to produce the results we did last season only at this higher level.
Mustangs 2 coach
"After I heard the news this past weekend, I was delighted about the recognition for the team and their brilliant achivements in 2011. This isnt only an achievement for the team, but also hugely beneficial to the club as a whole. This gives more visibility of the club to the British baseball community, and I know that the team will be as successful in 2012. The squad has some key staff and players, and the entire team plays for the same end goal - to have fun. (winning is a bonus)
I am extrmely proud to be part of this successful organisation - Wll done guys!"
